Before you hire a remodel crew in San Pedro
- Does a remodeling contractor need a license?
- Yes: a B General Building contractor's license, with permits for the structural, plumbing and electrical work. In California, a CSLB license is generally required for work of $1,000 or more (labor and materials), or any job that needs a permit or uses employees. WhichCrew shows whether a license number is on file and links to the CSLB lookup; checking its standing is up to you.
- What should a remodel contract include?
- A written scope, a payment schedule tied to milestones (California caps the down payment at 10% or $1,000, whichever is less), a change-order process, and who pulls permits. The CSLB publishes a plain-English guide to this.
- How do I pick between the contractors here?
- Open the jobs and read the notes. A neighbor who went through a six-month remodel and still gave five stars is telling you something specific about that crew.
